Your voyage of exploration commences at the Equator, amidst the lush Andean foothills. Quito, perched at 9,350 feet, ranks as the world's second-highest capital city, renowned for its exquisite Old Town. This historic enclave traces its roots to an ancient Inca settlement and has earned UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Within its confines, you'll encounter impeccably preserved Colonial architecture, graced by vibrant plazas, majestic churches, and grand monuments.

Should you find yourself with leisure time in the evening, consider a visit to Calle La Ronda, an age-old pedestrian thoroughfare associated with poets and other artists who once called this place home. The street is adorned with charming cafés and shops offering a plethora of handicrafts for your admiration and acquisition.

Pre-Program

Arrive in Quito a few days in advance, we invite you to join us on a captivating 4-day tour to the Cloudforest Lodge nestled within the Mashpi Reserve. This region is a precious part of the Ecuadorian Chocó Rainforest, celebrated as one of the planet's most exceptional hubs of biodiversity. This optional extension is also offered as a Post-Program, allowing you to further enrich your adventure.

Today's itinerary includes a visit to Cotopaxi National Park, which houses one of South America's most active volcanoes. At the Cotopaxi Interpretation Centre, you will delve into the history of its significant eruptions and gain insights into the local plant and animal life.

Following that, we will embark on a walk to Limpiopungo Lagoon, nestled at an altitude of 12,800 feet within Cotopaxi National Park. As you traverse the slopes, you may encounter herds of llamas and have the opportunity to spot various avian species, such as the Andean Gull, various types of hummingbirds, and, if luck is on your side, the magnificent Andean Condor. A delightful lunch, expertly prepared by some of the region's finest chefs, will be a highlight of your day before we return to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Following breakfast, a brief flight will transport you to Baltra Island, an integral part of the enchanting Galápagos Archipelago. From there, a transfer will swiftly escort you to the port, where you will be warmly welcomed aboard the comfortable expedition vessel, MS Santa Cruz II.

In the afternoon, we will make landfall at Las Bachas beach, situated along the northern coastline of Santa Cruz Island. This picturesque stretch of white sandy beach, adorned with azure waters, offers a splendid opportunity to observe iconic Galápagos wildlife, including flamingos and sea turtles. The beach's name, "Las Bachas," derives from the sunken barges left behind from World War II. Prior to returning to the ship, take a refreshing swim or embark on a snorkeling adventure. Upon your return, join us for a welcome cocktail and an informative briefing outlining the exciting adventures awaiting you on the following day.

Today's adventure leads you to the unspoiled beaches and enchanting landscapes of Santiago Island. Absorb the grandeur of Buccaneer Cove's dramatic cliffs along the northwest coast, which serve as a habitat for numerous marine birds and sea lions. Engage with the scenery through a variety of water-based activities and be awestruck by remarkable rock formations such as 'Elephant Rock' and 'The Bishop.'

In the afternoon, we will journey to Puerto Egas, renowned as one of the island's premier visitor sites. Here, you'll have the chance to encounter a colony of fur sea lions and witness exotic birdlife during an excursion. Alternatively, you can opt for a refreshing swim or snorkel along the rugged shorelines, often accompanied by the graceful presence of marine turtles.

Your day commences on the petite Rábida Island, situated just off the southern coast of Santiago Island. Opt for an exhilarating panga-boat excursion along the shoreline or partake in a guided expedition to explore the island's captivating red-hued sandy beach. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of a vibrant sea lion colony, while keeping a keen lookout for marine iguanas, mockingbirds, Yellow Warblers, and various species of Darwin's finches.

In the afternoon, we will set sail for the gilded shores of Bartolomé Island, where the imposing Pinnacle Rock reigns supreme. You can choose to swim or snorkel in the crystalline waters from the beach or embark on a marine life discovery journey aboard our glass-bottom boat. Keep an eye out for the possibility of encountering Galápagos Penguins on the shore. For panoramic vistas, venture on a hike to the island's summit.

Today's exploration takes you to Genovesa Island. Your morning begins with a brisk but brief ascent, a mere 90 feet, up a staircase that leads to a flat and rocky plateau. Once atop the plateau, you can stroll comfortably and witness sizable colonies of Nazca Boobies, Red-footed Boobies, Great Frigatebirds, and Storm Petrels. Alternatively, you can opt for an aquatic adventure by kayaking.

In the afternoon, we will make landfall at the picturesque beach bordering Darwin Bay, inviting you to take a refreshing swim. Following this invigorating dip, leisurely wander and observe the multitude of island birds that call this place home. You can also choose to swim, snorkel, kayak, or simply unwind on the sandy shores.

On our final morning, we'll find ourselves on the north shore of Santa Cruz Island. After enjoying breakfast, your luggage will be handled, and then you'll embark on a visit to the tortoise reserve. Following a dry landing at a passenger's wharf and a bus journey to the island's elevated region, prepare for the ultimate highlight of the cruise: encountering giant tortoises in their natural habitat.

The windward slopes of the island are home to two species of these magnificent creatures. These verdant highlands are adorned with dense forests of Galápagos daisies, orchids, and bromeliads, along with several unique land bird species. After this remarkable experience, we will proceed directly to the Baltra Airport, bidding farewell to the Galápagos.
